Both men's and women's soccer will have new assistant coaches this season with the hirings of Ryan Angel on the women's side and Gabe Margolis on the men's side.
Margolis and men's coach Mike Coven have known each other for a long time. Margolis worked with Coven at various soccer camps and, as a player, Coven tried to get him to join Brandeis. Margolis chose Boston College where he was a member on their Division One championship team. He ended up transfering to Wheaton where he played out his career. He worked at Boston University until last May and moved on to Northeastern. When Coach Coven was given the go-ahead to hire a full-time assistant coach, he immediately interviewed Margolis and, as a result, Brandeis now welcomes Coach Margolis.
Angel's hiring was less personal. Coach Denise Demallora placed a national posting about the vacancy and picked a great candidate. Prior to this, Angel was the soccer and lacrosse coach at his alma mater, Rhode Island College, for four years. During his tenure, the Anchorwomen had two straight 10-win seasons, the best in their eleven year history.
Both coaches are expected to play vital roles in running practices and recruitment.
