Women’s tennis continues early domination

The 25th-ranked Brandeis women’s tennis team easily dispatched Bentley University 8-1 in their home opener Thursday afternoon. Alexa Katz ’14 sealed the victory for the Judges with her straight set victory 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. After Katz clinched the match, the Judges won three of the final four matches. With the win, the Judges improved to 8-1 on the season while Bentley fell to 3-7.

The Judges jumped out to a quick start, winning all three of the doubles matches. Carley Cooke ’15 and Faith Broderick ’13 won at No. 1 doubles 8-1, Katz and Dylan Schlesinger ’15 won at No. 2 doubles 8-1, and Allyson Bernstein ’14 and Marissa Lazar ’14 won at No. 3 doubles 8-1.

The team followed up their sweep of doubles with Cooke easily winning No. 1 singles in straight sets 6-3, 6-1. Broderick defeated her opponent in No. 2 singles in straight sets 6-2, 6-0 while Bernstein won No. 3 singles in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. Katz also easily won in No. 4 singles, winning in straight sets 6-0, 6-2. The only match the Judges lost was at No. 5 singles where Schlesinger lost in straight sets 7-6 (7-4), 6-3. Jill Martin ’15 closed out the match with a win in nN. 6 singles 6-3, 7-5.

The Judges will look to continue their early domination when they travel to Babson next Thursday.
