Two Brandeis athletes were rewarded this week for their individual efforts volleyball captain Shannon Trees 08 and veteran goalkeeper Betsy Medow 08 each won defensive player of the week honors. Their defensive talents helped give volleyball and soccer strong performances for the week.
Trees was awarded UAA defensive player of the week after totaling 96 digs (5.05 digs per match) in a five game span as the Judges went 2-3. Stand out moments include October 10 when Trees had a career high 39 digs in a losing effort versus Tufts. She also had 13 digs on October 13 to help Brandeis defeat UAA rival Chicago and she finished the week with 24 digs in a 3-0 win over Case Western.
Betsy Medow was given the ECAC award after helping the Judges to a win and a tie against UAA foes Carnegie Mellon and Emory. Her strong week started on October 13 when her seven saves were vital as Brandeis scrapped away 2-1. This was followed up two days later with another sterling game as Medows six saves helped keep the game to a scoreless tie.
