Treasurer: It is time for Union to come together and be one team

What we have been going through so far is a series of unfortunate realities.

I am sure that a lot of people are disappointed in each other. I am also sure that a lot of people are tired from a series of events that hindered the Student Union Government from operating in its full capacity and to its best ability. Regardless of how people feel, we cannot be stuck with this situation forever.

It is time to move on. It is time for people to come together and be one team. There are several reasons for which the Student Union Government exists. It is crucial that all Student Union Government officers, whether they have been elected or appointed, realize perhaps the most important reason for the existence of our positions: to be a resource for students, to act as a bridge between the administration and the student body, and to advocate for needs of the student body.

I posted a quotation from Dwight D. Einsenhower in the Student Union office last year. It reads: “Always take your job seriously, never yourself.”

I know a lot of people have been hurt by this grueling fiasco and it may take a very long time for people to heal. Regardless, there are so many things to be done for the student body. Time is limited. It is already mid-October;

we only have seven weeks until the end of the semester. Hiatt;

dining services;

capital projects including the new Ridgewood, new Science Center, and new Admissions Center;

social life;

health center…. these are just a few projects that we really need to tackle. It takes a really long time to produce tangible result. We need to spend every single available second we have on these projects. We really need to get going with projects that will truly impact the student body in positive ways.

Shreeya [Sinha] and Michael [Goldman] are two good people with a lot of passion for the Student Union. What we have gone through was unfortunate, but everybody in the Student Union Government must work to come altogether to accomplish our biggest priority.

We are a large group of students with different perspectives and thoughts – we are bound to disagree and fight at times, but genuine and constructive criticisms are what we need to progress.

I see so much potential in members of the Student Union Government. It is only when everybody works together for the entire student body, not for ourselves, that we will be productive and work to our best ability.

We just went through a really tough time – a time of crisis – but I hope that this was a priceless learning opportunity for everybody, including myself. I believe that we are more mature and responsible than ever before. I am determined to make the Union Government function to the best ability it could and I hope the others do the same. It is time to write a new chapter.
