The Presidential Search Committee will be delayed in choosing a search firm, which it was supposed to have done by the end of January, due to a change in Committee leadership.

Meyer Koplow ’72 announced earlier this week he would step down as chair of the Presidential Search Committee after a member of the Brandeis faculty nominated him to become the next president of the university.

Chair of the Board of Trustees Malcolm Sherman wrote in a campus-wide e-mail that Board of Trustees member Stephen Kay would be taking over as head of the committee.

Kay wrote in an e-mail message to The Hoot that because of this change “I’d like to take a few days to familiarize myself with the finalists” before deciding on the firm, despite the fact that, as he wrote in the next sentence, “I have actively participated in search committee meetings.”

The committee will convene shortly to select the search firm causing “no significant delay in our schedule.”

“It’s a seamless transition, and my objective is to move this process along,” he wrote.
