This past week brought mixed results for the Brandeis swim teams. On Jan 14, the Men and Womens Swimming teams traveled to MIT to take on MIT and Colby College. MIT and Colby both dominated Brandeis. Four days later, Both Brandeis teams rebounded from their previous loss to defeat Clark University.

The Mens Swimming team did not fare well against MIT and Colby on the 14th. They lost to MIT by a score of 186 to 97 and subsequently fell to Colby by a score of 173 to 110. Part of the failure for the Brandeis men was that they only finished in the top three seven times out of 16 events. The men started off well. They finished second in the 400-Yard Medley Relay and then Hal Grossman 07 won the 1000-Yard Freestyle (10:30.49). That would be the only victory for Brandeis on this day. In the 100-Yard Backstroke, Brandeis didnt finish in the top five. Matt Lerman 07 got third place in the 100-Yard Breaststroke. Several events later, Grossman got third place in the 100-Yard Freestyle. This was followed up by Brandeis failing to finish in the top six in the 200-Yard Backstroke. Grossman finished in the top three for the third time with a third place finish in the 500-Yard Freestyle. Todd Berman 07 then got second place in the 100-Yard Butterfly (54.76). Brandeis finished up the meet by finishing second in the 400-Yard Freestyle Relay. Overall, the Brandeis men have had better meets.

The Womens swimming team didnt fare better. They lost 226 to 71 to the hosts and 207 to 90 to Colby. In the 16 events, Brandeis only finished in the top three places three times. They didnt finish anywhere in the top three until the sixth event, when Sharon Makowsky 06 got second place in the 200-Yard Butterfly (2:17.94). Charlotte Rea 08 got second place in both the 1-Meter Diving (212.40) and 3-Meter Diving (220.55). Brandeis didnt finish in the top five spots in five different events. Brandeis didnt finish in the top six spots of an event twice. Overall, it was not a successful meet.
