Brandeis tennis teams face mixed results over weekend

Although the womens tennis match against Colby College was canceled this past Sunday, both the mens and womens tennis teams were able to compete this weekend. The women were able to claim a victory over Mount Holyoke on Saturday in a 6-3 victory. The men, however, were defeated by their opponents this past Sunday by falling to Boston College 1 to 6. This late-season play was against strong opponents, decent competition, and saw the performances of numerous individual standouts.

Baseball can’t hold lead, fall 6-5

Pete Varney was in a rage. Bottom of the ninth and no outs, Brandeis down by one, catcher Artie Posch 10 appeared to be in position to score the equalizing run only to be called out at second on a steal attempt. It was a highly questionable call, especially since the shortstop did not have the ball. Varneys protests however fell on deaf ears and he was quickly tossed. Two fly outs to right field provided the disappointing capstone to a 6-5 defeat at the hands of Johnson & Wales
It was certainly not the way Brandeis wanted to finish this game that began on crisp Thursday afternoon to a crowd of around 100 or so some odd people some to watch the game, most for the free ice cream. As the temperatures dropped along with attendance, the game heated up.

‘Deis softball team drops third straight

After three straight rain outs, Brandeis softball took the field and picked up where they left off falling flat against Curry 6-0. On top of their April 14 double header sweep at the hands of Amherst drops the Judges back to .500 (14-14).

Men’s baseball consistently inconsistent

The six most recent scheduled Brandeis University baseball games have yet to be played as four of them have been cancelled, and two postponed due to poor weather conditions. The Judges played their last game on April 11 when they were demolished by WPI 2-10.

Brandeis commemorates Holocaust Rememberance Day

Brandeis students, faculty and members of the greater Boston Jewish community gathered in the Wasserman Cinematheque in Sachar on Sunday to commemorate Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Representative Markey speaks on campus

U.S. Representative Edward Markey (D-Mass) spoke before over 100 members of the Brandeis community Friday. The representative, who is the Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet and the recently-appointed Chairman of the House Panel on Global Warming, warned students of the dangers of global climate change.

A look at the candidates for elections, round 2

After last months elections of for the Student Union executive board, a subsequent election will take place next week to determine the other members of the Student Union for the 2007-2008 school year. This second round features the elections for Class Senator, Senators-At-Large, Racial Minority Senator, and the Union Judiciary. First round elections will take place April 24th, with follow-up second round elections April 26th.
