Fencing begins fight

With the arrival of winter the Brandeis sports scene is making the transition from outdoor to indoor, and that means that the Womens and Mens Fencing teams are kicking off their seasons. Both teams are coached by William Shipman, who is returning for his twenty-fifth year at Brandeis. He took over the position in 1981, and this year will be assisted by Dan Korschun, Elif Sachs, and Kerry Walton. On the mens side, the team is led by co-captains Brendan Doris Pierce (07) and Jeremy Simpson (06), while Deborah Model (06) is serving as captain for the women.
The teams season got underway on November 5th at the NEIFC Fall Collegiate Invitational, which took place in Northampton, Massachusetts. The Judges put in some very admirable performances, including Jeremy Simpsons first place finish in the Mens Sabre, and Stefanie Aucoins victory in the Womens Foil. Two Brandeis freshman started their careers very successfully, as Jess Davis-Heim (09) and William Friedman (09) were both able to place second in their respective divisions.
