Just refusing to jump the gun

As a second semester senior, Im sure some people would anticipate todays article to be about my mixed feelings upon coming to the end of my college career, the final semester, the last first day. I mean, we are heading towards a pretty important milestone, and spring 2007 feels a lot like sliding right into home plate. So I could write about all those feelings of excitement about the next step, anxiety about my ability to succeed in the world, fears of failure.

But we at The Hoot feel that, regardless of ones personal politics, the speeches have also given Brandeis a new lease on its intellectual and political life.


Though unchartered, Free Play Theater announces second season

Despite not gaining chartered status last semester, the Free Play Theatre Cooperative (FPTC) released an online message to its Facebook group announcing it would pursue a second season.


Leonard Bernstein grants are awarded to 40 artists

The Office of the Arts has announced that it has awarded a record-setting number of Leonard Bernstein grants to 40 artists across the Brandeis Community. The awards, named in honor of the legendary composer and Brandeis professor, Leonard Bernstein, are meant to fund artistic works ranging from theatre, music, dance, sculpture, and multimedia works that will be unveiled during the 2007 Leonard Bernstein Festival of Creative Arts.


Dershowitz invited by student group to rebut Carter’s speech

It was announced Jan. 17 that members of the Brandeis community have invited Professor Alan Dershowitz, renowned defense attorney and author of The Case for Israel, to speak on campus following a talk from former President Jimmy Carter regarding his controversial book Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid. The speech, according to organizers, will be open only to members of the Brandeis Community and will be held in the Gosman Gymnasium 30 minutes after Carters speech.
