Norman Finkelstein Invited to Campus

DePaul University Professor Norman Finkelstein, controversial author of Beyond Chutzpah: On the Use of Anti-Semitism and the Abuse of History, has been invited to speak on campus by members of the student body, according to an e-mail sent to the Radical Student Alliance (RSA).


Carter and Dershowitz Speak to Audiences

After weeks of national controversy and hostile media exchanges, former President Jimmy Carter and his longtime critic, Harvard law Professor Alan Dershowitz, gave back-to-back speeches to the Brandeis community regarding Carters recent book Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid. Carter, who had refused early December to debate Dershowitz, is the first president to visit Brandeis since Harry Truman gave the commencement speech in 1957.


F-Board grants travel, housing subsidies

The Student Union Finance Board recently announced in its Treasurer Manual that it now has the discretion to subsidize transportation and lodging costs for student-run clubs. According to the Manual, transportation subsidies are available to both competitive and non-competitive clubs, while lodging subsidies are only available to competitive clubs.


President Carter to speak on campus

After weeks of organizing and a signed petition by over one hundred members of a joint student-faculty committee, former President Jimmy Carter has agreed to speak and answer questions regarding his controversial book Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid. The speech will occur Jan. 23 in the Gosman Gymnasium, and will be open only for members of the Brandeis community.


Dershowitz invited by student group to rebut Carter’s speech

It was announced Jan. 17 that members of the Brandeis community have invited Professor Alan Dershowitz, renowned defense attorney and author of The Case for Israel, to speak on campus following a talk from former President Jimmy Carter regarding his controversial book Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid. The speech, according to organizers, will be open only to members of the Brandeis Community and will be held in the Gosman Gymnasium 30 minutes after Carters speech.


Leonard Bernstein grants are awarded to 40 artists

The Office of the Arts has announced that it has awarded a record-setting number of Leonard Bernstein grants to 40 artists across the Brandeis Community. The awards, named in honor of the legendary composer and Brandeis professor, Leonard Bernstein, are meant to fund artistic works ranging from theatre, music, dance, sculpture, and multimedia works that will be unveiled during the 2007 Leonard Bernstein Festival of Creative Arts.


Though unchartered, Free Play Theater announces second season

Despite not gaining chartered status last semester, the Free Play Theatre Cooperative (FPTC) released an online message to its Facebook group announcing it would pursue a second season.
