    Patriots’ corner

The Patriots, known for their free-agent work since the arrival of head coach Bill Belichick, are at it again, and are beginning by releasing several free agents who have quickly been scooped up.

    Slavin’s NFL Forecast

The NFL season ended on Sunday night when the Pittsburgh Steelers won their first Super Bowl in 26 years. Future hall-of-famer Jerome Bettis retired after the victory, which was his first Super Bowl win after 13 years in the NFL.

    Slavin’s game plan

This Sundays 40th Super Bowl, being held in Detroit, should be another great game, as the physical defense and running game of the Pittsburgh Steelers will take on the NFC champion Seattle Seahawks, with their impressive ground attack. The two teams havent faced each other since November of 2003, a time when both were radically different, and not nearly as respected across the league.

    AFC final preview

Last weekend, the top two American Football Conference teams predicted to go this years Super Bowl XL were defeated when the Indianapolis Colts fell to the bottom-seed Pittsburgh Steelers and Tom Bradys ten-game perfect playoff record was shattered by the Denver Broncos.

The Judges rebounded from their disappointing overtime meltdown against Tufts to knock off host Clark University 69-48 Tuesday night. Brandeis got off to a slow start on 33.3 percent shooting from the field that found them down 26-25 in a very even first half.

    NFL week thirteen recap

Last year if Peyton Manning had thrown for less than two hundred yards in a game, the Colts certainly wouldnt have won the game 35-3. However, this year they have gone 12-0, scoring an average of more than 35 points a game over the last 10 weeks. Many believe that the Colts will achieve a perfect season, which no team has done since the 1972 Miami Dolphins. Winning those last four games will be no small task, even for the Colts, as the next three teams they face have records of 9-3 (Jacksonville), 8-4 (San Diego), and 10-2 (Seattle).

    NFL Week 12 Recap

The Colts just won their eleventh straight game, making them only the eleventh team to go 11-0 in NFL history. They were fortunate to defeat the Bengals and Steelers, both of whom had seven wins. However Peyton Manning and Edgerrin James managed to get the Colts 26 points against the Steelers, while the impressive defense held young Ben Roethlisberger to under 150 yards, and just one touchdown score on Monday night.

    NFL week 10 recap

Wide receiver Troy Brown once again played on both sides of the ball (both wide receiver and cornerback) on Sunday as the depleted New England Patriots managed yet another last minute victory as they defeated the Miami Dolphins 23-16. The Patriots, who were without running back Corey Dillon, still managed a decently balanced offense with the help of ex-Seattle Seahawk Heath Evans, who ran for 84 yards, which was more than he gained in his last two seasons in Seattle alone. Despite the victory, the Patriots secondary was still a little fragile, with Miami Quarterback Gus Frerotte throwing for 360 yards and two touchdowns. The Pats also lost two more players to injury: Center Dan Koppen and Cornerback Randall Gay. The Patriots finished the first half of the season after having played the toughest first half of any team in the league, and look forward to a much easier second half schedule.

    NFL Week 9 recap

After seven unsuccessful attempts, Peyton Manning won his first game against the New England Patriots and coach Bill Belichick in New England this Monday night. Peyton was aided in the still undefeated Colts 40-21 victory over the Patriots by wide receivers Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne, and All-pro running back Edgerin James who each gained more than 100 yards for the predatory Colts offense.

    NFL Week 8 recap

Less than a year after suffering a stroke during the off season, linebacker Tedi Bruschi had 7 tackles in his triumphant return to the New England Patriots starting lineup. Bruschi not only helped by clogging up the middle at inside linebacker, but more importantly bolstered the spirits of teammates with his intensity and passion for the game.
