Condon, Steven-Rumann take honors in cross-country

The Judges had two competitors this weekend who earned all-association honors at the mens and womens UAA cross country championships this past weekend at Washington University in St. Louis. Tim Condon 08 received second-team all-association honors while Camille Stevens-Rumann 07, took all-association citations. Both these runners led their respective teams and posted remarkable results on their 6k and 8k courses.

Remembering Red Auerbach

Red Auerbachs dead. Even though he was 89 and had health problems for years, it was still a bit of a surprise to go on to washingtonpost.com Saturday night to find the words Red Auerbach Dies. Just like that, a heart attack took away a man who had become an institution, not only in Boston but in the realm of sports in general.

Men’s X-country shares 2nd, women take 5th at UAAs

After a long season of wins and personal records, the mens and womens cross country teams finished out their regular seasons last weekend with the UAA Championships at Washington University. The women were able to place fifth of the eight teams present at the competition while the men took second place, tied with host Washington University with 86 points. Tim Condon 08 earned second-team all-association honors and just missed first team by one spot. Co-captain of the womens team Camille Stevens-Rumann 07 placed 12th in her six kilometer race, earning her all-association citations.

Carfagno tournament MVP, McAllister Athlete of the Week

After a 5-0 week, sweeping every match, the Judges are currently 17-14 with only the UAA Championships left on their schedule. Two reasons why they are coming in with a winning record have been due to the play of their rookie middle blockersPiera Carfagno 10 and Bridget McAllister 10. Both players had strong performances during an exceptionally strong week, helping Brandeis sweep the 2006 Judges Classic, never once losing a game to the four opponents faced. As a result, both were rewarded: They were named to the All-Tournament with Carfagno getting MVP honors and McAllister receiving UAA Athlete of the Week honors.

Who is Saaya?

Nothing says diversity like a South Asian rock band, crooning to songs in Hindi and Punjabi, in a Waltham, Massachusetts campus community. But this is what happened when MELA 2005 needed a band, and a couple of students brought their musical talents together. Hence, Saaya was born.

Bringin Leggings Back

Theyre back! 1980s workout gear has recently become high fashion, as celebrities, models, and Brandeis students have brought leggings back.

Oh my! Oh yes!

Its seven oclock on Sunday night as a hungry mass descends upon chicken wings and boxes of pizza in the second floor kitchen of 145 South Street. While hunger quickly bonds everyone together, the different groups of people can quickly be made out once everyone begins to shovel slices of pizza down their throats. Brandeis students and residents of 145 South Street run about the room, cracking jokes about the weekend and joyously celebrating the days achievements. Members of the Kuss family, visiting their son for Fall Fest weekend, sit around a cramped table situated next to the windows in the kitchen and gleefully chat with everyone in the room. Although space in the room is tight, five musicians who made one of the most endearing and enjoyable albums of the year awkwardly stand against the wall closest to the stairwell they just climbed to arrive at such a feast. The stage was perfectly set for Oh No! Oh My! to kick off Octoberfest, a three-day string of concerts put on by the Punk, Rock n Roll club, at least once the band could get past the barrage of questions from Mr. Kuss.

Words, words, words with Tempest’s director

Continuing the Hoots ongoing series of interviews with student directors, this week I had a chance to sit down with Dina Maron 08, director of Hold thy Peaces production of The Tempest, and ask her a few questions about the show as its opening approaches.

Sex toys and you

Whats the deal with sex toys?

Sex toys are sometimes glamorized for their association with sexual liberation, sometimes seen as dirty and scandalous, but may also be viewed by some as a symbol of sexual incompetence. What people might not realize is that sex toys can be sexy and glamorous, and they can be scandalous (if you want them to be). And they can also be a great way to enhance personal and partner sex.
